Standard safety features now include Side and Side curtains on all models!

Wayne Gerdes - CleanMPG - July 23, 2008

2009 Toyota Yaris 5-door hatch w/ a stick – 29/36 city/highway mpg on the 08 EPA.

As previously reported, Toyota will be offering the new five-door Yaris along with the std. three-door hatchback and four-door Sedan.

Yaris sales are currently running a few hundred below 65,000 through mid-year with an expected 130,000 in sales expected if present sales trends continue. With the additional 5-door hatch model added to the lineup plus the included new std. safety features, Toyota believes they will see the same sales for calendar year 2009. The new 5-door is projected to comprise approximately a third of all Yaris sales.

For 2009, all Yaris models feature standard safety equipment including an anti-lock brake system (ABS), front seat-mounted side airbags and front and rear curtain side airbags. All Yaris models also include A/C; tilt steering wheel; digital clock; a map light; intermittent windshield wipers with mist control; dual sun-visors with vanity mirrors and 60/40 split rear seating for three with headrests in each seating position. Cruise control is now available on Liftback models, and audio systems are satellite ready/capable.

Yaris delivers outstanding fuel economy and for 2008 was awarded the lowest cost of ownership in its segment according to Intellichoice®.

Pricing for the all-new five-door model will be announced next week prior to its expected arrival into dealership showrooms this August.
